The World Association for Cooperative Education (WACE) is an international organization devoted to promoting Work Integrated Learning (WIL) programs worldwide. WACE brings economic development specialists from more than 40 countries together with academic and corporate leaders to examine the impact of WIL on global workforce development.
WACE was founded in 1983 by a group of university presidents, educational specialists, and corporate leaders from eight countries. It is the only organization devoted to promoting Work Integrated Learning programs internationally.
In 1993, Compostela Holy Year, the University of Santiago de Compostela started contacts with other institutions of higher education located in the secular Way to Santiago. Its main aim was to establish a university network that would enable co-operation between universities in order to preserve the historical and cultural heritage emerged around this pilgrimage way to Compostela that has crossed Europe from the IX century.
