Additional Search Features

February has been a busy month for the StudentMASH technical team.  Just one of a long list of additional site enhancements is the new optimised search engine.

Search results can now be ordered according to 5 different criteria.  Search for a course / institution by relevancy, content, popularity, StudentMASH user rating or alphabetically.

'Rate Your Uni' Campaign

As we enter March and spring approaches the StudentMASH team wanted to take the opportunity to tell our users how they can vent any post exam stress or even better, talk about the positive experiences they have had at uni so far, by submitting review on the site.

Take part and have your say! Log in, submit a ‘Review’ on your university/faculty/course page, let our 80,000 monthly users know what student life is really like. Use StudentMASH 's platform to help other students and let your institution know what works and what doesn’t.

Be honest, be constructive, have your say!

If reviewing is not your thing - upload videos, photos or forum posts to get your point across.

Whilst you’re there check out the StudentMASH's new videos, images and news mashed in from Youtube Flickr, Facebook & Google plus our improved search and browsing capabilities.

Don't forget to keep the feedback coming in by emailing info@studentmash.com.

New Faculty Pages

New webpages have been built, giving each faculty from over 5000 institutions worldwide an individual profile page on the site!

This means that you can be even more specific with your searches. Whether posting or viewing, users can now directly visit their specific department of choice.

As we understand that academic institutions differ from country to county, individual college and school pages have been built to accommodate the variation between national structures.

Get Mashed! - YouTube, Flickr, Google, Linkedin

From the beginning of Feburary, StudentMASH has been mashing in all the best videos from YouTube, images from Flickr and news from Google.

What is mashing?

This means that all the most up-to-date content from YouTube, Flickr, Google are fed onto StudentMASH  every hour. StudentMASH is also interfaced with the professional network LinkedIn.

Where can I find the mashed in content?

Everywhere! Mashed in content can be found on every single one of StudentMASH's profile pages.  What's more, the content that appears has been filtered so that only the most relevant material is displayed.

What if inappropriate content slips through the net?

If you come across anything that you find offensive or irrelevant just press the 'inappropriate' button that appears next to the offending item.  An alert is then automatically sent to a member of the StudentMASH team and the post is removed until someone personally checks it.

Tata Interactive Systems (TIS) stand at the Learning Technologies 2008 exhibition

'No frills, just outstanding, world-renowned expertise’ is the theme of the Tata Interactive Systems (TIS) stand at the Learning Technologies 2008 exhibition, being held at London's Olympia on the  30th and 31st Jan  2008.

Visitors to the TIS stand at Learning Technologies this year are being encouraged to discuss their key business challenges and corporate initiatives with TIS - and benefit from a free 'e-learning consultation'.

“This year, our focus is on offering, and using, our considerable expertise in all aspects of ‘business’ to address the business challenges faced by our clients – and by visitors to our stand at the exhibition,” said Alan Samuel, head of UK operations for the global learning provider, Tata Interactive Systems (TIS).

The Bologna Accord

The Bologna Accord aims to harmonise 40 different European higher education systems by creating a single system of degrees (Bachelor and Master qualifications) within an agreed framework and with a consistent credit and grading system.

A key objective is to create a more competitive Europe by establishing a higher education system compatible with global standards.

Bologna will therefore increase the opportunities and choices of the ever growing pool of European students that currently number over 2.4 million each year.

What these students do post-Bachelor will have a significant impact for education and business.

What exactly is the Bologna Accord? To find out more, visit the Council of Europe's Bologna for Pedestrians page.
